The Past and the Present

When I was studying geodesy in college, I lived in a dormitory. Once, I contracted acute conjunctivitis. My eyes were so dry that I needed to use eye drops constantly. Hence, I had to carry eye drops with me all the time.
Later, in a dream, an old woman pulled out a bag of medicinal powder from her pocket and spread the powder over my eyes. In the dream, I felt a refreshing coolness that was beyond comparison, and an extraordinary sensation of comfort.
The odd thing was, after that dream, my conjunctivitis subsided completely. The old woman was actually an emanation of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
(I have mentioned this incident in a previous book.)
Today in samadhi, I went to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's Celestial Mountain to personally express thanks for healing my eyes.
First, I went to Shancai Cave [or Sudhana Cave].
Sudhanakumara said to me, “The Bodhisattva is in the Cave of Tidal Sound.”
I went to the Cave of Tidal Sound and saw Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva; she wore a pure white robe adorned with ribbons and majestic ornaments.
I thanked her for previously curing my eye disease.
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva said, “In the past, I cured your eye illness; today, you will cure others' eye illnesses. This is all causal affinity. I will transmit to the world a dharma to cure eye diseases, and it is very effective. You can write about it in your books to help the people in this world."
Every day at dawn, one obtains a cup of clean water and burns a stick of incense. Then, one chants the following stanza seven times:
Relieve me of my suffering, Avalokitesvara. Grant me great peace.
Bestow upon me great expedient means. Remove the darkness of my ignorance.
All my hindrances built over eons. All my ignorance and transgressions.
Permit me to depart from this dark room. Help me to see the light of things.
Today, I chant the Cleansing Dharma. Repentance clears the offenses.
Shining the clear light universally. Allow me to see subtle forms.
I asked Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, “Why do so many people in this world contract eye diseases?”
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva replied, “Those who can see are blind, those who can't see are also blind; who in this world can see clearly?”
I was shocked to hear this.
This is true if you think about it. Who amongst us has never been vexed with problems at some point from childhood to old age? Who has not been caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life? How many people can meet good friends to teach them the genuine dharma? Those who can see are blind, those who cannot see are also blind; humans are really very blind.
