二○一一年二月廿二日午時許，紐西蘭的第二大城市—基督城以及周圍地區，遭遇了前所未有的強烈大地震。地震無情地損壞了街道馬路，切斷了下水道和電源，摧毀了大量的建築物。至三月七日止，罹難人數已達一六六人，失蹤兩百餘人，城市仍然遭到餘震的不斷襲擊。
墨爾本〈華光功德會〉協同〈善明同修會〉緊急呼籲真佛同門及善信大德，為紐西蘭的受災居民盡一份力量，所有捐款將會轉交〈澳洲紅十字會〉以盡快送往災區。
